Birmingham Firefighters Local 117 Charity Golf Tournament
Birmingham Firefighters Local 117
The 9th Annual Birmingham Firefighters Local 117 Billy Self Charity Golf Tournament to benefit Camp Smile-A-Mile was held yesterday at the Woodward Golf and Country Club in Bessemer. The turn out was so good that there were no slots left open.
The money raised from this event will help children with cancer attend summer camp. These special children will be able to participate in normal camping events while remaining under medical supervision. Before Camp Smile-A-Mile, many children were not able to go to a sleep-over camp because they were undergoing chemotherapy. Now, every child up to the age of 18 who is a current or former cancer patient can go to camp. Qualified medical personnel from the Hematology-Oncology department at The Children Hospital stay at the camp during each camping session to administer chemotherapy as well as take care of all the first aid needs of the campers.
Congratulations to Local 117 for putting on such a successful event for a great cause!
