Shelby Announces $99,247 for Hueytown Fire and Rescue

WASHINGTON, DC

Tuesday, December 16, 2008-- U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will release $99,247 to Hueytown Fire and Rescue in Jefferson County. The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

"Hueytown Fire and Rescue will use this grant to fund its operations and safety programs," said Shelby. "First responders serve day in and day out on the front lines to protect our communities. This grant will help Hueytown Fire and Rescue as it continues its efforts to ensure the safety of the community."

The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded these funds as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute $500 million in direct federal assistance this year to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations nationwide.
