Center Point Extrication Equipment
Center Point Fire & Rescue
The Center Point Fire District was awarded another Assistance to Firefighter Grant for 2007, including $66,000.00 for extrication equipment. The department was able, with that money, to replace all of their front-line extrication tools. They now have extrication equipment on all 4 of their first responding engine companies. These companies are located at fire stations in Center Point, Clay, Pinson, and Chalkville.
With the grant money, Center Point purchased 4 complete sets of Genesis Extrication equipment. Newer cars are being engineered with new alloys and harder metals to reinforce areas that might experience an impact in a wreck. These areas of hardened steel are the same areas that rescuers need to breach to gain access to patients. Genesis has built extrication tools that have greatly enhanced power and strength to allow access into cars with those alloys. The new tools are 3 to 4 times stronger, not only in spreading force, but cutting force as well. Center Point is excited to have this new state of the art equipment in service, ready when needed.
Before placing the new equipment in service, all of their employees underwent training with the new tools over several days, learning the capabilities of the new equipment and new techniques on dismantling automobiles. These are some photos of those training classes. A special thank you to Center Point Fire & Rescue for sharing them!
