Fatal House Fire

Birmingham Fire & Rescue

Birmingham Firefighters responded to a house fire where a possible explosion may have taken the life of a 98 year old lady who lived with her daughter. While Birmingham Firefighters did all they could to save the lady, it was too late.

Neighbors reported hearing explosions.

Birmingham Fire & Rescue is investigating the cause of the fire.

My prayers go out to the family.

From the Birmingham News story:
The victim's daughter, Dorris Jean Parker, had gone to the drug store to pick up some medicine and cranberry juice for her mother, neighbors said.

"I heard two explosions: Boom! boom!" said Linda Sims, who lives across the street from the house in the Briarmont Estates neighborhood halfway between Tarrant and Huffman.

She said she saw a large ball of fire billowing from the garage door of the brick split-level home. Then she saw fire advancing through the rest of the house, visible through the windows.
